10.07.2006
Initiative’s REAL Youth Panel has just released its latest wave of results. Findings show how 16-24s are increasingly viewing TV online, with over half of the respondents having watched or downloaded TV programmes in the past.

This figure is slightly higher amongst the female audience and 16-18s. The most popular genre of programmes watched online are animation and American dramas, with 39% of respondents saying they have watched Lost online. A quarter of respondents said they watched some of the 2006 World Cup matches online.

Of those who don’t download TV programmes online, a third said it was due to the cost involved.

Jane Anthony, Head of Consumer Insight at Initiative comments “The findings of this study are significant in showing the increasing number of ways young people are consuming media. Given Channel 4’s recent move to simulcast broadcasting, our study points to growth for the future in this area”.

The year long study called ‘REAL Youth’, investigates what 16-24 year olds really think about Media, life decisions and brand preferences. The online panel is made up of 35,000 youths, with a minimum of 200 completed questionnaires per wave. Results are published on a bi-monthly basis, with previous studies having investigated finance and mobile phones.
